Frequently asked questions
- 01
Dentist-led professional teeth whitening is a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface. In the UK, teeth whitening can only be legally carried out by a Registered Dentist.
- 02
Whitening enhances the appearance of the teeth, resulting in a brighter smile. Looking good often means feeling good too – boosting confidence and self-esteem.
- 03
£199 if you are a student. This includes your assessment with a Dentist, your custom whitening trays and your professional whitening kit.
- 04
With OnCampus Whitening, you actually see a Dentist. Dentists can prescribe products with a high concentration of the active ingredients that whiten teeth effectively. The whitening kits we use are 60 times stronger than anything you’d find online, in a supermarket or chemist. We also construct custom made, bespoke ultra-seal trays that are a perfect fit for your teeth.
- 05
Over the counter and non-professional whitening is ineffective because the concentration of gel used is extremely low, legally they can only use concentrations of up to 0.1%.
Dentists are highly trained and are therefore legally allowed to prescribe gel up to 16% in strength, meaning the gel can penetrate the teeth more deeply and whiten them significantly more effectively.
- 06
Typically traditional dental clinics charge £350-600 for professional whitening. The majority of the time you would also need to pay £50-100 to become a member of their practice (e.g. new patient examination fees). We know this is prohibitively expensive for a student.
- 07
We charge significantly less than traditional dental clinics for professional teeth whitening. We also will not charge any consultation or new joiner fees.
Instead of seeing a Dentist at a traditional clinic, you will see one of our Dentists on our Mobile Smile Suite, which will be situated on your University campus.
- 08
Yes, it is exactly the same. The whitening kits we provide are used by over 7000 traditional dental practices in the UK.
- 09
We use our Mobile Smile Suite to travel from university to university, so do not have a brick and mortar building. This helps us keep our costs low so we can pass this on to you.
Additionally, we’re not interested in exploiting students to make crazy profits as we're a community focused enterprise.
- 10
Unfortunately, fillings, crowns, veneers and composite bonding will not lighten with any whitening product.
- 11
Your OnCampus Dentist will prescribe the whitening treatment plan often for 2-3 weeks, although the exact length is based on a number of factors. Most of our patients start seeing results after around 3 days, but we advise you to finish the full course as prescribed by your Dentist.
- 12
With all Dentist-led professional whitening there is usually some mild sensitivity for the first few days of treatment.
- 13
The best thing you can do to help make sure your teeth are ready for whitening is clean your teeth at least twice a day for 2-3 minutes and floss daily.
- 14
Your OnCampus Dentist will first make sure you are suitable for treatment, then assess the current colour of your teeth and take a 3D scan to make your bespoke ultra-seal trays.
Your OnCampus Dentist will also show you how to place the gel into the trays and explain the next steps of your whitening journey.
- 15
The process is very simple:
1. Brush your teeth as normal in the evening
2. Apply the whitening gel to your trays
3. Place your ultra-seal trays into your mouth and wear the trays overnight
4. In the morning remove the trays, rinse any remaining gel and brush your teeth
5. Repeat daily for 2-3 weeks, or for as long as the dentist advises
- 16
You will receive a full refund.
The vast majority of patients are suitable for whitening. However, if your dentist does not think you are suitable it is usually because your teeth and gums are not clean enough, so please make sure you are brushing twice a day, especially for the weeks leading up to your appointment.
- 17
Unfortunately not. Due to our offering we would be inundated with patients, which means there would be no space for actual students to benefit from our service.
- 18
A study of 2000 UK employees found that over two thirds (67%) consider a good smile to be an important asset at work, and more than two fifths (42%) find people with healthy-looking teeth more authoritative. Two in five (42%) employees have found working with colleagues with bad teeth distracting. Almost third (29%) admit that it affects their confidence in a co-worker’s ability to do their job.
A similar study also found that whiter teeth greatly increase a person’s chance of being offered jobs (58%), but also receiving higher pay (53%).
- 19
Legally we cannot whiten your teeth if you are under 18 or pregnant.
If you have multiple holes (cavities) or inflamed gums (gum disease) we would recommend getting this addressed before whitening your teeth.
Professional whitening requires 2-3 weeks of wearing whitening trays each night. If you do not think you would be able to do this then we would not recommend whitening for you.

Please select your university on the ‘Locations’ page to see the dates we are at your university. We have limited spaces per day so please book early to avoid disappointment!
If your University is not listed it means we are not there yet, but please register your interest. We choose our next locations based on how many students register interest, so share with friends!

We don’t ask for much from you guys but do we ask that you attend all your booked appointments. Our appointments are in high demand and not turning up for your appointment means that place could have gone to someone else.
- 22
